At St. Nicholas, we provide a curriculum tailored to the individual needs of our students. This means that, for the majority of subjects, rather than state what is taught in specific Year Groups, content, skills and learning always focuses on what is appropriate for each student at that time.

Our ‘Steps’ system sets out a progression of skills and knowledge from step 1 to step 6, that not only ensures students are taught at an appropriate level but also ensures progression in the knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for the next steps in their learning as they move through our school and onto their post 16 studies. Areas such as time and money in maths and reading and writing instructions in English feature regularly to ensure these key skills are developed and consolidated over time.
