Our Curriculum

Behaviour Curriculum

Our behaviour curriculum details how we teach the students to behave appropriately through the modelling, recognition and celebration of pro-social behaviours and choices. We have focussed on simplifying the language we use with the students and making sure this is used consistently across the school. Language such as ‘pro-social’ and ‘anti-social’ are used to refer to the behaviours we want to promote or challenge. We support students to self-regulate and to navigate their way through anti-social situations with the use of restorative practice, zones of regulation and emotional literacy activities such as Talking Circles.

We have moved away from a sanction-based approach to consequences and have been creating a culture where anti-social behaviours are viewed as learning opportunities. We have refined our school rules, in line with the work undertaken with ‘When the Adults Change’ and have adopted ‘RRS’: ready, respectful, safe. Our reward system, epraise, is used to motivate students to demonstrate positive behaviours for learning and good levels of citizenship throughout the school day. Positive consequences: pro-social behaviours are rewarded by ‘Positive Recognition’ and are identified within the three school rules – Ready, Respectful, Safe – that is being prosocial! Positive recognition includes:

  • Positive verbal praise
  • Positive non-verbal praise
  • Written feedback
  • Class rewards
  • Epraise points which convert to digital currency for students to purchase their choice of reward

For ‘over and above’ behaviours, attitude and learning, we recognise these by the following:

  • Bonus epraise points
  • Public display of work
  • Responsibility in the classroom and around the school
  • Class rewards
  • Phone call/text home/postcard home to parents and carers to share good news
  • End of Quest (half termly) and termly awards
