Our Curriculum

St Nicholas Skills 4 Life

Our Skills for Life (S4L) curriculum is designed to sit alongside our Quest curriculum as an additional resource to help some of our students develop the social, practical, organisational and independence skills that will help them contribute to, and enjoy, a fulfilling and happy life. It contains a number of S4L Units covering a wide range of Life Skills in the following themes:

Independent Living

Building Resilience

Social Interaction

Personal Organisation

Road safety and travel

Work Skills

Leisure Time

Research Skills

Personal Care

Keeping Helathy

Personal Budgeting

Home Skills

Each S4L Unit is made up of a selection of AQA Unit Awards. The AQA Unit Award Scheme is provided by AQA to “allow all students to engage with learning and have their achievements formally recognised”. For more information on this scheme please click here. As students achieve AQA Unit Awards they will receive a certificate from AQA When a student has completed all the required AQA units for one of our S4L Units they will receive an additional S4L certificate from the school.

Example

The S4L unit ‘Letters and Forms 2’ is made up of four separate AQA Unit Awards. So, once fully completed, a student will receive four AQA Unit Award certificates, and one St-Nicholas S4L certificate.
