Some students may also be selected to attend inter-school or community events where their achievements are acknowledged through medals and/or certificates being awarded.

We strive to motivate, encourage and praise our pupils for their positive attitude, prosocial behaviour, politeness and effort in their work.  Our school behaviour curriculum teaches our students to how behave through relational practice, staff modelling and positive recognition for positive behaviours.

Our students’ achievements are also acknowledged through both our online reward system, epraise, and the Jack Petchey Foundation Award.  Students are awarded epraise points for their behaviour and attitude in class using the school’s rules – Ready Respectful Safe. At the start of the lesson, student starts at zero, staff reward students at the end of each lesson by talking through each criterion and awarding a point for Ready Respectful Safe attitude and behaviours.

Jack Petchey Foundation Award

Our school has been awarded a Silver Level for participation in the Jack Petchey Foundation. Sir Jack Petchey set up the Jack Petchey Foundation to inspire young people across London and Essex to work hard and reach their full potential. The student body votes for a fellow peer student they believe to be an ambassador for the school, a student who goes over and above. Students and staff nominate young people they would like to celebrate and acknowledge for an Achievement Award. An important part of the scheme is the involvement of young people in selecting the award winners for their hard work and efforts. We want young people to recognise and celebrate the success of their peers.

Each award winner then receives a certificate, pin badge and a book from Sir Jack himself. They also choose how to spend a £300 grant to benefit the school. Below are a few examples of how the Jack Petchey Award has been spent in the past by previous student winners:

  • A bench for the school
  • Class days out – cinema, lunch (Pizza Hut, Toby Carvery, Nandos), visiting the London Transport Museum, adventurous activities at Stubbers, Switch Bar (gaming shop), bowling, Colchester Zoo
  • Stage shows/Theatre – Hamilton, Pantomime
  • In school activities – stage shows/ pantomime, Snakes Alive, disco,
  • Train club in school
  • Gaming Chair for e-sports team
